Trump aside, I see nothing too serious with learning about Thanksgiving the way I did. What’s the alternative? Taking away special times of the year for kids and scaring them senseless? Or at least making the world dark and depressing. Christmas has little to do with Jesus, but I wouldn’t want to teach a six year-old about bacchanalian pagan festivals.
Learning the truth about the holidays when they’re older is much like finding out Santa Claus doesn’t exist; not life threatening, but natural.
But while he did exist, the world was a magical place. That’s called childhood.
