Of course she seized on that! You two weren’t friends and she didn’t know you, so she went for the soft underbelly, so to speak. People do the same with any woman they don’t like: “picking” on her nose, her mouth, her ankles, her thighs, her age, her clothes, whatever. Sometimes men come in for it, too. Particularly if they insult women first.

Strange men have insulted my writing without ever having read a word simply because they didn’t like something I said, or I cut them off in a comment because they were being jerks. It’s a “Let’s act like a seventh grader!” free for all.

It’s hard to have sympathy with anyone who messes with a married person. And a married person who messes around is telling you right there who they really are.
