It used to be the hippies people objected to. In fact, when I was flying for Pan Am, I was on vacation in Greece and saw some “left over” hippies in the Plaka. I don’t know how they supported themselves, but they weren’t begging.

Hippies did beg, and some abused the system, but a lot of them also supported the life they wanted to live by making things, living on communes, etc. These people could do the same by teaming up for a year or two at home to cut expenses.

They’re proud of doing this, you can tell. They have no qualms about their methods.
