Articles like this reinforce the ridiculous idea that life “overseas” is perfect. That is really selling people a bill of goods. It is not perfect. There are homeless, unemployed, ignored and abandoned people in the “civilized” countries of Europe as well. I read their stories all the time.

There are acid attacks and home invasions and knife attacks and bombings.

Go. Please go. Make less traffic on the roads. Find out how much houses or rents cost over there. How easy it is to start a business if the government doesn’t believe it’s a “useful” one. Or how easy it is to move to Canada if you don’t have a skill they want or need. How much of your paycheck goes to taxes over there. Find out how much personal freedom you have to homeschool your kids if that’s what you want to do. Or how much leeway you have to move from one level of society to another. How much acceptance you really have if you’re from another culture.

Ireland is only recently improving their medical care options. There are hundreds of illegal immigrants from Ireland here. Find out whether you will never end up homeless or have to make hard choices. Whether the institutions will protect you forever from devastation when you become disabled and lose your job. Do people really think their mortgage or rent will be paid by the government indefinitely? Or that they’ll never get laid off from a European job?

Yes, universal healthcare is a boon for most folk. I know ex-pats who can’t get seen for months for a health issue. Their issues aren’t “priority,” or they’re at the back of the line because they’re elderly.

I think everyone should go over there. Clear out these road jams from this terrible, horrible country that no one wants to live in.
